We highlight key topics for service workers at European level over the past month and look ahead to what’s coming up over the next. Conference 2021 Unions representing 7 million service sector workers from across Europe came together for the first virtual edition of the UNI Europa Regional Conference. Over 900 delegates and trade union guests attended the online event, which was hosted by UNI-affiliated unions from the three trade union families of Belgium. Delegates voted to pass eight resolutions and two statements which set the organisation’s political priorities for the next four years and named UNI Europa’s new leadership.See the keynote address of Oliver Roethig, Regional Secretary, for a summary of the key political priorities for the mandate. #ProcuringDecentWork With the recent launch of our campaign for no public contracts without collective agreement, we are working towards the next step. 15 June is Justice Day and we will be putting our demand at the centre of our actions. We will again be turning to the European Parliament and calling on MEPs to pledge their support for our key demand. Contact us if you want to get involved. #MakeAmazonPay Last week was a major week of work on Amazon. We joined Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), first in the streets for the Brussels rally of the #MakeAmazonPay campaign, then in the European Parliament itself for the Amazon Hearing. The consensus with which MEPs from all groups called out the corporation’s abusive labour practices was encouraging. We will be keeping up the momentum with the publication of research into Amazon’s surveillance of its workers over the next month.
