European unions come together to discuss how to strengthen collective bargaining

Over the next two years, the majority of EU Member States will have to develop national action plans to strengthen collective bargaining, mandated by the EU Directive on Adequate Minimum Wages. This is a unique opportunity for trade unions to promote workers’ collective power.

On 13 February 2024, UNI Europa organised a workshop with its member unions to discuss how to make the most of these national action plans in their respective countries. UNI Europa affiliates from 17 countries took part in the interactive workshop, which discussed multi-employer bargaining, the minimum wage directive and how to promote collective bargaining.

The following day, the focus shifted to a political analysis of the minimum wage directive and the need for strong national action plans.

The workshop is part of the EU-funded Level-Up project, which looks not only at what policymakers can do, but also how trade unions can promote collective bargaining. four different workshops have been organised over the past year.
