In 2022, security printing workers at a Thales DIS security printing facility in Poland set up a trade union as part of ZZP, thanks to a tightly knit workforce and the support of Thales trade union organisations from across Europe. The workers at the Tczew facility in the north of the country print highly sensitive ID documents such as passports.
In recent months, following a well-planned negotiation cycle, the workers secured a well-deserved pay raise—an important step toward improving working conditions in a country where inflation amounts to 4.7 per cent.
The success was driven by the union’s strong presence both inside and outside the workplace, with almost 200 members of which 8 sitting at the executive board. A referendum was also held on entering into an industrial dispute, to which 500 members answered positively.
These elements played a crucial role in strengthening their position and ensuring a positive outcome. This achievement underscores the power of collective action and strategic organising.
“We continue to work to improve wages and work culture in our company. We are making employees aware of our labour rights and the opportunities provided by the trade union, because together we can do more,” said Daria Dubiel, Member of the board of the polygraphers’ union at Thales DIS Poland.
