A new framework of actions promises more diversity and inclusion for a resilient audiovisual sector

Today, European social partners in the audiovisual sector published their Framework of Actions on diversity and inclusion.

A new framework of actions promises more diversity and inclusion for a resilient audiovisual sector

One of the formal outcomes of European social dialogue, Framework of Actions on diversity and inclusion released today puts forward recommendations for actions by employers’ and workers’ organisations, as well as other relevant stakeholders such as educational institutions.

Recommendations are grouped in four chapters that address:

  • the pathways into the sector;
  • inclusive workplaces and work processes;
  • diversity on screen; and
  • monitoring processes.

The list of suggested actions is not exhaustive but a guiding framework to be adapted and adjusted depending on each organisation, its size, its mission, and the territories it operates in. All sector organisations are however invited to take some action to prevent any form of discrimination, and contribute at its level to a more diverse and inclusive audiovisual workforce as well as to a more diverse representation on screen and on air.

The framework is the outcome of four roundtables as part of a EU-co-funded project. European social partners express their gratitude to all the individuals and representative organisations who contributed and shared their experience and expertise during those meetings.

The Framework of Action on diversity and inclusion is complementary to another framework on gender equality adopted by the European social partners in 2011 and updated in 2023. Both instruments need to be promoted simultaneously, taking advantage and building on the synergies between the two parallel tracks.

The signatories are: Association of Commercial Television and Video on Demand Services in Europe (ACT), the Association of European Radios (AER), the European Audiovisual Production Association (CEPI), European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ), the International Federation of Actors (FIA), the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF), the International Federation of Musicians (FIM), and the Media, Entertainment & Arts sector of UNI Europa (EURO-MEI).

They will promote the framework among their member organisations and the European audiovisual sector at large. They will also reconvene regularly in the years to come to monitor progress towards more diversity and inclusion in the audiovisual sector.
