Democracy

UNI Europa Director of Policy and Research, Stan De Spiegelaere, spoke about democracy at the workplace at the workers’ voice conference.

“Why democracy at work matters”

On 19 March 2024, UNI Europa’s Director of Policy and Research, Stan De Spiegelaere, presented at the workers’ voice conference organised by the Hans-Böckler-Stiftung.

During the presentation he demonstrated the direct link between democracy in the workplace and political democracy. Studies show that people who experience democracy in the workplace are more likely to be socially engaged and less likely to have anti-democratic attitudes. Democracy at work also has a positive effect on social justice and therefore on almost all aspects of social issues. The best way to protect democracy is to make it accessible to as many people as possible, he concludes. The best place to do this is where you spend a lot of your life: in the workplace.

His speech titled “Why democracy at work matters, for all of us” and can be found here, a report of the conference can be downloaded here.
