Towards daytime cleaning

We hear from experts and policy-makers about the benefits of daytime cleaning. UNI Europa held a one-day conference in June 2023 bringing together stakeholders from across the sector. The advantages for workers, employers, clients as well as the broader societal benefits were presented and discussed. Pathways to a broader uptake of daytime cleaning were also discussed. Public procurement was highlighted by many speakers as key to mainstreaming this beneficial practice. Ensuring that public buyers are contracting with decent work employers, who have collective bargaining agreements with their workers was also seen as crucial to lifting the cleaning sector. Read our joint statement with employers on sound public procurement as essential for quality service: https://www.uni-europa.org/news/cleaning-employers-and-workers-sound-public-procurement-essential-for-quality-service/ Ahead of the meeting, UNI Europa undertook a ground-breaking international survey of cleaners. The survey, which received responses from over 2,500 cleaners in 32 countries across 6 continents, highlights the detrimental effects of nighttime on the health, well-being, and social inclusion of workers.
