The European elections in May are the most important for decades.
On International Women’s Day on 8th March, UNI Europa and the entire European trade union movement are calling for women to take a stand.
“The power is in our hands. Our vote will determine establishment of real equality and the fight against sexism and gender violence“ said Sofia Kanta, UNI Europa Women’s Committee President,”We are voting for a fairer and more social Europe for all!”
Oliver Roethig, UNI Europa Regional Secretary stressed, “The turnout and vote of women will be crucial for progress on gender equality and a fairer Europe for workers.”
With their election programme “A fairer Europe for workers”, ETUC trade unions push for a Europe:
- Where the European Pillar of Social Rights adopted EU in 2017 becomes reality, including the right to gender equality.
- That ensures equal pay – for the same work or work of the same value – for women and men in all EU countries.
“UNI Europa has long called for a strong EU political strategy to achieve gender equality and to tackle harassment and violence against women,” continued Roethig.
“This election gives us all, women and men, the opportunity to elect a European Parliament that will do so.”
“Let’s all work for a majority for women and workers!”
