UNI Europa Finance and the European social partners in the financial services sector have signed a joint statement of support and solidarity on the Covid-19 crisis. The statement thanks finance sector workers for their continued commitment in these difficult and uncertain times and reaffirm that the health and safety of workers, customers and the general public is and will remain our priority.
“Workplaces are the frontlines of containment efforts. This of course applies to local bank branches, where workers provide vital everyday services to the public, and to larger workplaces where many people congregate. The Covid-19 response implies changes for both: dealing with the consequences of workplace closures and stepping up protection where face-to-face contact remains a must. Workers and employers are working together to ensure that this is done in an effective and inclusive way,” said Oliver Roethig, Regional Secretary of UNI Europa.
“As we know, effective and genuine social dialogue between unions and employers remains the best way to find solutions and successfully implement necessary measures, and in these exceptional circumstances is needed now more than ever,” said Maureen Hick, UNI Europa Finance Director.
Europe must show responsibility, solidarity and efficiency in facing this emergency by protecting all its affected citizens, workers and businesses. UNI Europa Finance and our European finance sector social partners remain committed to protecting banking and insurance sector workers and supporting European citizens and economic activities during this extraordinary crisis period.
