The training focused on supporting Türkiye Gazeteciler Sendikası (TGS) union representatives in the media and publishing industry, providing them with the tools to renew and strengthen their organising efforts in Turkey.

Through hands-on activities, interactive discussions, and strategy-building sessions, the participants explored practical approaches to mapping, problem identification and campaign planning.

The participants found the interactive set-up engaging: “This was one of the best trainings on union organising I’ve ever had. We worked through the importance of mapping, identifying leaders, and conducting surveys step-by-step and in a detailed manner,” one participant said. “The group work was an excellent method for better understanding the content and practicing what we learned.”

“I refreshed my knowledge in three key areas: identifying natural leaders, establishing a union in the workplace and mobilising leaders, activists and members around common issues,” another participant said, adding: “I gained useful information on mapping, problem identification, and action methods. It was a very valuable experience.”

This workshop was part of UNI’s broader commitment to building the capacity of trade unions across Europe. By fostering collaboration and allowing participants to adapt strategies to their local contexts, the training in Izmir marked an important step in supporting unions like TGS in their ongoing efforts to advance workers’ rights in the media and publishing sectors in Turkey.
