Public procurement to strengthen collective bargaining
There is growing awareness of the need to ensure the public money is not fueling a race to the bottom for working people. UNI Europa and the ETUC recently held an event with key EU policy-makers. Representatives from four major groups within the European Parliament spoke out in favour of trade union demands.
Workers and their unions are today sounding the alarm for media independence at the heart of Europe. The aspiration for a quality news platform that draws Europe together is being suffocated. Euronews was taken over last year by an investment fund with close ties to Hungary’s far-right prime minister, Viktor Orbán. An editorial overhaul and mass layoffs are now being pressed by its new owners.
A UNI Europa delegation will be at the Congress of the European Trade Union Confederation, held in Berlin on 23-26 May 2023. As an affiliate, UNI Europa has voting and speaking rights. Through our participation, we aim to have the specific interests of service sector workers reflected in the Berlin Manifesto.
