Open letter: for transparent DSA and DMA negotiations

Open letter: for transparent DSA and DMA negotiations

As part of the People vs Big Tech alliance, UNI Europa has joined 42 trade union and civil society organisations in sending a letter calling for transparency in the ongoing Digital Markets Act and Digital Services Act trilogue negotiations. The letter was sent to those responsible for the negotiations from the three different negotiating institutions: the European Parliament, The European Commission and the Council of the European Union.

These two proposals have immense potential to improve digital services and markets, with real life consequences for working people’s lives. They have also been the target of intense lobbying. Big Tech has deployed its immense resources to try and influence this process at all stages and have achieved unparalleled levels of access. Civil society organisations and citizens cannot match the resources spent and the access gained by Big Tech.

To ensure that the trilogue negotiations on the Digital Services Act and Digital Markets Act are genuinely transparent and open to citizens, the signatories call on the co-legislators to:

  • Publish proactively, on a rolling basis a list of documents tabled during trilogue negotiations, in line the European Ombudsman’s recommendation;
  • Make public an up-to-date calendar of trilogue meetings including summary agendas;
  • Publish proactively the four-column document on a rolling basis
